Hands-on! The Baltic Sea Course at Askö

How does marine research work in the Baltic Sea? Which biological, geological, and chemical processes play important roles in such an environment? What are the differences between studying coastal ecosystems and studying the open sea? These are the core questions of the 7-day Baltic Sea course for German and Swedish students, which has been offered jointly by the IOW and the Baltic Sea Centre of Stockholm University for 15 years.

By doing field work and sampling under the guidance from researchers from both institutions, the 20 participants will learn to use advanced resources and methods, both on the well-equipped IOW vessel Elisabeth Mann Borgese and at the Askö Laboratory. The course also provides a valuable opportunity for networking with students and marine research experts from both countries.
