My current main task in the WG Bio-physical interactions is to investigate the state of the Baltic Sea in terms of eutrophication and its consequences for the sea. This includes the development of projects to answer unresolved scientific questions. The data on measured nutrients, oxygen and hydrogen sulphide reflect the basis for this task. To obtain reliable results a DAkkS-accredited quality assurance of the collected data is important, which is also my duty. I carry out the scientific evaluation and presentation of the results in reports and publications, as well as one of the five monitoring campaigns of the IOW as chief scientist. In addition, I also participate in national and international committee work.

Expertise

Marine Biogeochemistry

•  Nutrients cycling, eutrophication and oxygen depletion in Baltic Sea water masses

•  Mercury species in seawater a) Transformation of ionic mercury to gaseous elemental mercury and its marine emissions b) Concentration distribution of Methylmercury in the Baltic Sea.

•  The carbonate system of the Baltic Sea with a special emphasis on the CO2 air-sea gas exchange

•  Particle associated trace elements in sinking and suspended particles
