Dr. Johannes Werner - Praktikum/Thesis
I am always looking for motivated students for an internship or a thesis in bioinformatics in the field of marine microbiology.
Here is a list of possible topics, but own ideas are welcome as well:
- Metagenomics/metatranscriptomics analysis of the bacterial and archaeal communities of the redoxcline in the Black Sea
- Metagenomics analysis of the bacterial communities in a marine ammunition dumping site
- Metagenomics analysis and binning of bacteria involved in glyphosate degradation
- Comparative genomics analysis of plastics-degrading bacteria
- Sequence analysis of plasmids elements in bacteria and archaea
- Enzymatic adaptation of extremophilic microorganisms
- Distribution and adaptation of carbohydrate-active enzymes in extremophilic and mesophilic microorganisms
- Phylogenetic and evolutionary analysis of microbial proteins
Interested candidates should have good UNIX and programming skills (preferably Python and/or R). Knowledge of version Git/Github/Gitlab, workflow management systems (e.g. Snakemake or Nextflow) is desired. Experience in biostatistics and (meta)genomics data is advantageous. Profound English communication skills are necessary.
