The focus of my research is the development and application of efficient analysis methods for organic trace substances in the marine environment.
In my dissertation, I developed suitable analysis approaches to detect highly polar organic compounds like the herbicide glyphosate in seawater. In order to overcome salt-matrix limitations during the analysis, I applied the seawater desalination technique of electrodialysis, which enables previously impossible analyses of highly polar trace substances.
Currently, I am investigating the occurrence, transport and degradation of the herbicide glyphosate in the marine environment, specifically in the Baltic Sea.
