Projekt: Turbulent transport and mixing in estuarine and coastal dense bottom currents

Title: Turbulent transport and mixing in estuarine and coastal dense bottom currents
Duration: 01.01.2008 - 31.12.2009
Project manager: Prof. Dr. Hans Burchard
Funding: DAAD
Focus: Transport and transformation processes
Department: Physical Oceanography and Instrumentation
Notes: In this joint collaboration, key questions regarding turbulent transport and mixing of solute and particulate matter in estuarine and coastal dense bottom currents will be addressed. Due to their non-linearity, these ecologically highly relevant processes are far from being understood. Three different systems will be analysed by means of numerical modelling and field data: inflow of dense water into the non-tidal Baltic Sea, outflow of dense water out of the tidal Shark Bay (Western Australia) and suspended matter and oxygen dynamics in the meso-tidal Swan River (Western Australia).
