Die Europäische Meerespolitik hat mit der Implementierung der Meeresstrategie-Rahmenrichtlinie (MSRL) und der Umsetzung der Fauna-Flora-Habitat-Richtlinie (FFH-RL) im marinen Milieu die Rahmenbedingungen zum Erhalt der biologischen Vielfalt in den heimischen Meeren geschaffen. Aufgabe der Mitgliedsstaaten ist es, Umwelt- bzw. ökologischen Zustand der marinen Lebensräume zu bewerten, ggf. Maßnahmen zur Verbesserung zu initiieren und den Erfolg dieser Maßnahmen zu überwachen (Monitoring). Vor der Feststellung des Umweltzustands heimischer Seegebiete stehen jedoch grundlegende Fragen, deren Beantwortung eine Grundvoraussetzung für eine wissenschaftlich fundierte Bewertung des Umweltzustands und ein zielführendes Monitoringkonzept darstellt:

  • Welche Biotoptypen lassen sich in den deutschen Seegebieten identifizieren?
  • Was ist die biologische Grundausstattung (Gemeinschaftsstruktur, Diversität) dieser Biotope?
  • Wo befinden sich diese Biotope (Lokalisierung/ Kartierung)?
  • Wie wirken sich anthropogene Belastungen aus und wie groß ist das Regenerationspotential benthischer Gemeinschaften?

Die in den Vorläuferprojekten (AWZ-Cluster-Projekte 4, 6 und 9 des BfN) begonnene Bearbeitung dieser Fragestellungen soll im vorliegenden Projekt fortgeführt werden. Fokusgebiete sind dabei die küstenfernen Hartböden und deren Gemeinschaften.
