MOSSCO II: Küstenmeerforschung: Verbundprojekt MOSSCO-Synthese: Modulare Modell- und Datenkopplung für Schelfmeere und Küsten; Vorhaben: Modellkonfiguration, Nutzung eines verallgemeinerten Muschelfarmmoduls zur Verbesserung der Wasserqualität

In der zweiten Phase des Verbundprojekts MOSSCO (MOSSCO Synthese) wird das in Phase 1 entwickelte modulare gekoppelte Daten- und Modellsystem auf ausgewählte Forschungs- und Managementfragen zum deutschen Küstenmeer angewandt, die sich vorrangig mit den Auswirkungen von Prozessen an der benthisch-pelagische Grenzschicht befassen. Hochaufgelöste Modelluntersuchungen werden in vier Gebieten durchgeführt (Schleswig-Holsteinisches Wattenmeer, südliche Nordseeküstenbereich, Oderhaff, und westlichen Ostsee). Diese Anwendungen sollen Forschungsfragen zur Interaktion zwischen Biogeochemie, Ökologie, und Sedimentdynamik im Küstenübergangbereich beantworten sowie spezifischen Anforderungen der KüNO-Partnerprojekte und zuständigen Behörden für die Umsetzung von EU-Rahmenrichtlininen gerecht werden. MOSSCO Synthese befasst sich vor allem mit der Rolle makrobentischen Fauna auf Systemdynamik in küstennahen Bereich und soll ökosystemrelevanten Abschätzungen für sedimentäre Zustandsvariablen und Budgets liefern, sowie Abschätzungen über die durch das Sediment beeinflussten Wasserqualitätsparamter und Ökosystemleistungen.
