Projekt: Quantification of shear-induced convection and bottom boundary layer mixing in natural waters

Akronym: ShIC
Titel: Quantification of shear-induced convection and bottom boundary layer mixing in natural waters
Laufzeit: 01.10.2006 - 15.10.2010
Projektleiter: PD Dr. Lars Umlauf
Finanzierung: DFG
Schwerpunkt: Transport und Transformationsprozesse (bis 2012)
Sektion: Physikalische Ozeanographie und Messtechnik
Beteiligung:

Andreas Lorke (University of Konstanz, Germany)

Kooperation:

Alfred Wüest (EAWAG, Switzerland)

Kommentar:

The focus is on turbulence and mixing in sloping bottom boundary layers that become gravitationally unstable due to the near-bottom shear. With a field programs and modeling studies we compare the Baltic Sea, Lake Constance (Germany), and Lake Alpnach (Switzerland).
