Coastal Ocean Physical Processes Studies (COPPS)
The COPPS group combines the expertise in process oriented measurements and numerical modelling to study the dynamics of coastal ocean areas.
Especially motivated by the investigation of mixing processes crucial for the Baltic ecosystem the main research topics are:
- deep water and bottom boundary layer mixing
- upwelling
- bottom gravity currents
- internal waves
- interdisciplinary studies of coastal ecosystem functioning
These subjects are studied by:
- ship-based hydrographic and microstructure measurements
- maintenance of moorings
- tracer release experiments
- numerical simulations
Other activities are:
- process studies of tidal estuaries
- development of numerical methods for ocean models
- turbulence modelling
