Ostseetag (Baltic Sea Day) 2025 in Stralsund
On June 5, 2025, the Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency (BSH), the Ocean Museum Germany (DMM), the IOW and the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries (TI-OF) jointly hosted the 5th Baltic Sea Day in Stralsund close to the Ozeaneum from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm. The motto this time: “Healthy Baltic Sea – Healthy People”.
Three research vessels that regularly operate in the Baltic Sea – the ELISABETH MANN BORGESE (IOW), the CLUPEA (TI-OF) and the DENEB (BSH) – attracted numerous interested visitors to the pier “Steinerne Fischbrücke” close to the Ozeaneum with their “Open Ship” programme. School classes were given guided tours of the three research vessels. The host institutes had set up various themed booths aboard and on the pier to provide insights into current Baltic Sea research from different perspectives. The IOW ship alone welcomed around 600 guests who came to chat with the researchers on board.
In addition, Arved Fuchs with his historic expedition ship DAGMAR AAEN and nine other institutions (Friedrich Loeffler Institute, Stralsund University of Applied Sciences, EUNICoast, Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, National Park Vorpommersche Boddenlandschaft, University of Greifswald, University of Rostock, WWF Germany) contributed to the programme of the Baltic Sea Day on the Stralsund quayside.
Also well attended were the events in the Ozeaneum – expert talks and impulse presentations on various research topics as well as the panel discussion on this year’s Baltic Sea Day theme “Healthy Baltic Sea – Healthy People”.
