The renewal of the deep water in the western and northern Gotland Basins caused improvements in the oxygen conditions in May and July 1987. In November, H2S was observed again in the bottom water of the northern basin. In the deep water of the eastern Gotland Basin, the stagnation period continued, characterized by high concentrations of H2S. H2S was observed since April in the bottom water of the Bornholm Basin and since July in the Gdańsk Basin (NEHRING & FRANCKE, 1988).
