Organisers

The Baltic Sea Research Institute Warnemuende (IOW) is an independent research institution specialising in interdisciplinary study of coastal oceans and marginal seas. In particular, IOW's work focuses on the Baltic Sea ecosystem.  The institute has four departments representing the disciplines of physical oceanography, marine chemistry, biological oceanography and marine geology.

Since summer 2002 IOW, together with the Alfred-Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) and the Research Centre GKSS Geesthacht, offers annual summer school courses related to “Coastal seas under pressure” in a rotating schedule.

In 2005, IOW successfully hosted the International Summer School on 'Coastal and Marine Management - Baltic Sea and North Sea'. In terms of local organisations IOW will be supported by EUCC - The Coastal Union Germany.
