IOW Photo contest 2015
Choice images highlight the excitement of everyday life in marine research
The day-to-day of marine research at IOW can have numerous fascinating facets. This was impressively demonstrated by the institute’s recent photo contest that had been launched for the first time this year: 18 scientists submitted a total of 160 photos, which were taken in many different work contexts. A jury of four – two well-known professional photographers of the region, Thomas Häntzschel and Jürgen Reich, as well as IOW director Ulrich Bathmann and IOW science manager Barbara Hentzsch – were charged with the quite difficult task to look through this rich collection of quality photos and choose three winning pictures in each of the five categories.
The result was a diverse kaleidoscope of photographic highlights illustrating the category themes of “Under Water“, “IOW at sea”, “In the lab”, “Microscopy” and “Miscellaneous”. The wealth of submitted contest photos – especially the winning pictures – will be used in support of communicating the fascination of IOW’s Baltic Sea research.
