A MBI of low intensity in Nov./Dec. 1979 caused deep water renewal and oxic conditions in the Bornholm and Gdańsk Basins during all seasons. H2S was observed in the eastern Gotland Basin during the whole year. In August, oxygen containing water lifted up the anoxic bottom water as a consequence of the MBI. H2S was measured in the bottom water of the northern basin in May and Oct./Nov. and in the western basin (NEHRING & FRANCKE, 1982).
